Argentinian Billionaire Calls Bitcoin Better Than Gold as a Savings Asset

Marcos Galperin

KANALCOIN NEWS – Argentinian billionaire Marcos Galperin said that bitcoin is a better saving asset than gold. This was conveyed by Galperin in his tweet on social media Twitter some time ago.

Marcos Galperin is a billionaire and CEO of a well-known e-commerce platform from Argentina named Mercado Liber. Galperin himself is estimated to have a net worth of $7.7 billion.

With his wealth, it certainly raises the question for bitcoin users whether Galperin invests his wealth into bitcoin. Answering this question, Galperin made a tweet on his personal Twitter account.

In his tweet, Galperin said that bitcoin is a better saving asset than gold. However, Galperin said that bitcoin might not become a legal tender currency.

According to Galperin, the energy used to produce cryptocurrencies, including bitcoin, is very unfriendly to the environment. Galperin also said that quantum computing might be able to overcome this problem.

Apparently, the statement regarding bitcoin made by Galperin drew a lot of responses from his followers. There are some followers who even criticize Galperin’s statement with various questions.

One of Galperin’s followers with the Martin Morando account said that the billionaire’s understanding of bitcoin mining was incorrect. Morando said that the energy released by bitcoin mining is not a problem.

In addition, Morando also said that most of the energy used to produce bitcoins can be renewed. Morando also advised Galperin to read a review on a certain website that disproved the energy-inefficient bitcoin mining theory.

Meanwhile, another Twitter account named Ibarra Gustavo even blasphemed Mercado Libre and Mercado Pago companies which are under the ownership of Galperin.

“At Mercado Libre and Mercado Pago, have they measured how many kWh they consume to process money transfers with all credit cards and operating Mercado Pago entities?” Gustavo tweeted.

The tweet submitted by Galperin is apparently related to Argentina’s current financial condition. The reason is, Argentina is experiencing an economic crisis and plans to print new money again.

In fact, Argentina was recorded to have experienced inflation reaching 40 percent in December 2020. In addition, the value of the Argentine Peso currency also experienced a depreciation of 94 percent against the United States dollar.

Argentina’s economic collapse sparked comments from experts urging Argentines to use pesos to buy bitcoins to save their lives.
